Where Were YOU at last night????????????????

I write this blog with a conflicted heart. On one hand as a person that loves politics and the excitement of it all, this was by far the most exciting political season in a long time. Different from the 08’ season that was marked with change and history making. This political season was exciting to watch because you just did not know which way it was going to go in many of the elections. But on the other hand, what it meant for Democrats around the country would prove disheartening for me and other democrats everywhere.

In total, Six States controlled by Obama and the Democrats in the 08 election shifted Republican tonight, including the STATE OF ILLINOIS (WTF). Joining Illinois, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Arkansas.

Probably for me the most disturbing, and perhaps unexpected turn of events was the loss of President Obama’s former senate seat from Alexi Giannoulias to Mark Kirk. Disturbing to me for several reasons, most notably because in many ways it means that in some way, the very state that believed so highly in President Obama, 1st several years ago when he became State Senator, and then again in 08’ when he became President, didn’t believe in his choice for the next elected successor for his former seat. It’s also disheartening because of the subliminal messages the state of Illinois and other states across our great country. The shift political control in the House, and the loss of several Obama 08’ States, including his hometown of Illinois, screams something is wrong. Perhaps the country is screaming “Obama, your change hasn’t come fast enough”, or maybe their screaming “The ‘Hope’ you told us to have just doesn’t live here anymore”. I personally believe that the millions upon millions of people Obama mobilized in his 08 run, didn’t feel motivated or inspired to get out here and do it again this election season. Some political “smarty’s” are suggesting that new voters came out in protest of President Obama and his administration, I, and many others believe that it was a failure on the part of many 08 voters to get out and vote this year for one reason or another.

Whatever the case may be, one thing is for sure. There has to be a revival of some sort. A refocusing on the part of the President, and the country to make sure that what happened tonight does not happen again 2 years from now. And if I’ve learned nothing more from tonight’s events, it’s that that revival has to begin YESTERDAY.
